From April this year small business, which had previously been below the threshold for Business Rates, will be required to pay them. This will significantly increase the outgoings on many of Swansea and in particular Sketty, based shops.
Mrs Langstone, who owns a shop on Eversley Road, said “Being required to pay rates from April could well put a strain on a lot of local businesses, a lot might not be able to survive.” Mrs Langstone went on to point out that “a lot of shops in the area rely on one another, if one or two go it could not be long before the rest follow.”
Small shops and sole traders are an important part of the community throughout Sketty and as such should be given the support they need. The Welsh Conservatives support businesses and will continue to do so, so that these businesses may help Sketty thrive.
